My Story
Hi, I’m Gauri. Welcome to Mitti by G. Mitti means soil or earth in Hindi - a name that's deeply personal to me and rooted in where I come from. I grew up in India, so the name feels like a quiet nod to home :)
I'm now based in San Francisco where I once had a fun and fulfilling career in tech. It kept me busy, challenged, and well-caffeinated… until one day, it just didn’t spark joy anymore. I found myself craving something more hands-on, something creative, something—well—less digital and more muddy.

Several years ago, my husband and I signed up for a one-time pottery class, mostly for fun. My first pieces came out looking like "abstract interpretations" of what they were supposed to be, but I was completely hooked. There was something magical about shaping clay with your hands, watching it transform, and letting go of perfection along the way.

So, when I took a break from tech, I didn’t just slow down—I threw myself (and some clay) into learning pottery. What started as a curiosity turned into a love affair with texture, glaze, form, and function. I’m now a self-taught potter, making small-batch ceramics that are meant to be used, loved, and maybe even fought over at the breakfast table :)

I especially enjoy making everyday objects like mugs, bowls, and other functional pieces that feel good in your hands and bring a little joy to daily rituals. After all, who doesn’t love a good mug that makes their morning coffee feel just a little more special?

With the encouragement of family, friends and a growing pile of test pieces, this journey has been full of joy, growth, and glaze experiments gone sideways :) I'm so excited to share my work with you and hope it brings you as much warmth and delight as it brings me to make it.
